My Experience As A Man Working In A Female Dominated Workplace
Meet James Wameyo, a recruitment specialist at Corporate Staffing Services, a leading recruitment firm in Kenya.

He connects job seekers with available jobs and on his typical day, he drafts job descriptions based on what the client is looking for, he sources candidates, prescreens them, conducts interviews and performs reference checks.
He also coordinates with recruitment manager to ensure the client gets qualified candidates.
James is an integral part of the recruitment team at Corporate Staffing and his role is to ensure that jobseekers get jobs that they qualify.
I had a conversation with him to understand his experience working in a predominantly female office as majority of the professionals working in the HR industry are female and this is evident at Corporate Staffing where 70% of the staff are female.
“Initially, my thoughts were different based on the perceptions that I used to hear about working with female colleagues that they were difficult to approach and interact with.” He said.
Those perceptions made him hesitant about interacting with them in a professional setting, but when he joined Corporate Staffing, his thoughts changed when he discovered a supportive environment with female colleagues.
“My experience working with them has enabled me to build professional relationships, and I appreciate the unique perspectives they bring to our team.” He added.
As a recruitment specialist, he interacts with diverse candidates daily, and some find it easy to showcase their skills and experiences.
On the other hand, others struggle to demonstrate their strengths, and they need guidance to articulate their suitability for the role.
His advice to professionals who keep applying for jobs and are almost giving up because they have not succeeded is this.
“Before you apply for any job, understand the key requirements in the job description. Align your skills and experience with what the employer is looking for and seek professional CV writing services to ensure that your CV is tailored accordingly. This will boost your chances of being shortlisted for an interview.”
