How I Finally Secured a Job after 3 Years through CSS
Getting your dream job can be challenging but it requires effort, and perseverance to navigate through the processes.
Fred Awuor realized that unique skills, values, and experience were crucial in the job search and he aligned them with what the employer was looking for and that set him apart from the competition.

Through online, he learned about the CSS where he came across the role of Operations Coordinator we had advertised for our client in the manufacturing industry, and with over 1000 applicants, he became the best.
Here is his story:
Tell us about yourself.
I am Fred Awuor, an enthusiastic and focused professional with over 9 years of experience working in the education and manufacturing sector.
I am currently in charge of overseeing the production team and ensuring smooth operations, providing guidance, support, and leadership to the team members.
How long had you been looking for a job?
In the company where I worked, a manufacturer of packaging products, the competition for the product became stiff in the market due to the emergence and rise of other companies that produced similar products.
That led to an increase in the cost of materials, especially the hydrocarbons sourced externally; hence there was an inevitable need to downsize and reduce the employees to cut the cost.
My contract was not terminated but as a proactive measure, I saw the need to look for a safer landing before being declared redundant by looking for new job opportunities which took me three years.
What has your job search experience been like?
I made several applications both online and hand delivery. With most of them, I did not get the feedback but with the ones that I got, they were just regretful feedback. For the interviews that I attended, I wasn’t successful but I did not give up.
Are there any specific challenges you encountered in your job search process?
One of the major challenges was attending the physical interview but getting regret email which was quite disappointing.
Where did you hear about Corporate Staffing and the job opportunity?
I learned about Corporate Staffing Services online where I came across the role. I was also a frequent visitor to their partner website Career Point Kenya. I have so far been recommending CSS to my colleagues, friends, and any other person looking for a job.
How was the application and interview process?
The application process was simple because the only document that I was required to submit was the CV, unlike other applications where one is required to travel to drop the application letter or follow long procedures of applying for a job.
The interview process on the other hand was done virtually and it focused on understanding my suitability for the role.
Did you think you would get the job? Please give a reason.
Yes, I was optimistic and I felt that I was right for the role because my experience in the manufacturing industry positioned me for success in that role since the client was looking for the skills and experience that I possessed.
What do you think employers look for or check when selecting suitable candidates?
The employers look for a professional who is passionate about the job, and someone who can connect with the culture of the company. Work experience and academic qualifications are other considerations that they check.
Many professionals continue to look for jobs in this competitive job market. What is your advice to them?
Looking for a job can be tough but it is important to have a positive mindset. If you fail to get positive feedback from the employers, never give up. Consider pursuing other opportunities even if they are not related to your profession.
What do you think is the secret to getting a job in this competitive market?
The secret is to network as much as possible, make use of genuine recruitment firms like Corporate Staffing Services and be checking their daily job posts, and apply for as many as possible, especially those you meet the requirements.
If you were to speak to any professional out there, what is one thing you would tell them to do to succeed this 2023?
My advice to any professional is to tap into their full potential, strive for excellence by seeking opportunities for growth and advancement to achieve your career goals.
