  • The Medical Officer is responsible for delivering comprehensive, and high-quality clinical care across outpatient (OPD), inpatient (IPD), and emergency departments. Reporting directly to the Head of Clinical Department, the Medical Officer will perform clinical assessments, formulates diagnostic and treatment plans, conducts minor surgical/clinical procedures, manages emergency resuscitation, and ensures accurate documentation. This role is pivotal in maintaining patient safety, operational compliance and quality healthcare delivery.

Clinical Patient Care & Management

  • Conduct thorough clinical examinations, obtain detailed patient histories, and formulate appropriate differential diagnoses.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic laboratory investigations, radiological studies, and clinical tests in a timely manner.
  • Prescribe evidence-based medical treatment plans, medications, and therapeutic interventions in line with healthcare and hospital clinical guidelines.

Inpatient & Emergency Care

  • Conduct daily ward rounds for admitted patients, review progress notes, adjust treatment protocols, and plan timely discharges.
  • Provide immediate emergency care, triage, and resuscitation for acute medical, surgical, or obstetric emergencies.
  • Perform minor clinical and minor surgical procedures within scope of practice (e.g., wound debridement, suturing, lumbar puncture, chest drain insertion, cannulation).

Documentation & Administrative Compliance

  • Maintain meticulous, legible, and timely physical patient charts, including discharge summaries and referral letters.
  • Ensure strict adherence to pre-authorization guidelines, insurance documentation requirements, and medical audit protocols.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration & Quality Assurance

  • Collaborate effectively with consultants and other teams to optimize patient care.
  • Participate actively in mortality and morbidity (M&M) reviews, continuous medical education (CME) sessions, and clinical governance audits.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols, patient safety policies, and medical ethics standards.

Qualifications & Job Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB / MBBS) or equivalent medical degree from a recognized university.
  • Licensing & Registration: Active registration and valid retention license from the relevant national Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council
  • Experience: Minimum 1–3 years post-internship clinical experience in a busy hospital setting.
  • Certifications: Current certification in ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), BLS (Basic Life Support), and/or ATLS/ALSO preferred.
  • Skills & Competencies: Strong clinical diagnostic skills, proficiency in emergency procedures, excellent communication, empathetic patient relation skills, and proficiency in Hospital Management Systems
