Job Purpose
The Communications Coordinator will lead the planning, development, and implementation of Caritas Nairobi’s internal and external communication strategies. This role supports the visibility, reputation, and influence of Caritas Nairobi’s work across all thematic programs — including livelihoods, child protection, health, and humanitarian response.
Working under the Deputy Director Programs and Administration, the communication Coordinator will play a critical role in strengthening donor visibility, supporting fundraising initiatives, documenting impact stories, and managing the organization’s digital presence.

Key Responsibilities
A: Strategic Communication and Branding
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy and annual work plan aligned with Caritas Nairobi’s mission and strategic objectives.
- Ensure consistent and high-quality branding and messaging across all platforms and materials.
- Develop and maintain Caritas Nairobi’s media kit, communication templates, and visual identity guidelines.
- Manage crisis communication and reputation management issues when necessary, in collaboration with senior management.
B: Content Creation and Visibility
- Develop compelling content (articles, press releases, newsletters, case studies, videos, and photography) that highlight the organization’s impact and initiatives.
- Support documentation of success stories, human-interest features, and field updates for donor reports and social media.
- Manage the design and production of high-quality Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials including brochures, reports, and event branding.
- Maintain and regularly update the organization’s website and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, YouTube) to ensure engaging and timely content.
C: Donor and Partner Communication
- Collaborate with the Resource Mobilization team to develop donor visibility materials and communication packages for project proposals, fundraising campaigns, and reports.
- Coordinate communication aspects of partnership activities, ensuring compliance with donor visibility requirements.
- Support documentation and publication of project achievements, annual reports, and special donor features.
D: Media and Public Relations
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with journalists, media outlets, and communication officers of partner organizations.
- Identify and leverage media opportunities to showcase Caritas Nairobi’s programs, events, and impact.
- Organize press conferences, media briefings, and public events to enhance organizational visibility.
- Prepare talking points, speeches, and press statements for leadership as required.
E: Internal Communication
- Facilitate effective internal communication to enhance information flow between programs, management, and staff.
- Manage internal communication platforms (intranet, newsletters, and announcements).
F: Events and Campaigns
- Support the coordination and branding of organizational events, launches, and fundraising initiatives.
- Lead the design and implementation of thematic campaigns in collaboration with programs and partners.
- Ensure proper documentation, photography, and media coverage for all events.
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
- A master’s degree will be an added advantage.
Experience:
- At least 7–10 years of proven experience in developing organizational or institutional communications strategies, preferably within NGOs, faith-based organizations, or development agencies.
- Demonstrated understanding of development communication, advocacy, donor communications, and stakeholder engagement.
- Experience working with Church-affiliated or faith-based institutions will be an added advantage.
- Excellent analytical, writing, facilitation, and interpersonal skills. SAFEGUARDING, PSEA, AND CHURCH COMPLIANCE.
- Demonstrated experience in content creation, social media management, storytelling, and media engagement.
- Proven ability to translate complex development information into accessible and compelling communication materials.
- Experience supporting donor visibility and fundraising communication is highly desirable.
Key Competencies and Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
- Strong interpersonal, networking, and coordination abilities.
- Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, social media management tools etc).
- Strong photography, videography, and visual storytelling skills.
- Strategic thinker with creativity and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated commitment to the values and social mission of Caritas Nairobi.
