Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

  • Implementing and reviewing the Commission’s security policy, strategies and procedures;
  • Reviewing periodic assessment of security threats and develop mitigations;
  • Preparing security awareness programs for employees and security personnel;
  • Liaising with Government law enforcement agencies on security-related matters;
  • Ensuring adequate supervision of security officers and outsourced private security guards while building good working relationship with police officers seconded to the Commission;
  • Monitoring the preparation of daily reports including daily occurrences, transit reports, background checks, executive protection;
  • Coordinating investigation of security-related incidents at the Commission premises and submit reports for action;
  • Coordinating security operations in the Commission’s premises;
  • Coordinating fire safety drills;
  • Carrying out sensitization of the Commission’s employees on security matters;
  • Inspecting and advising security personnel on maintenance of security documents and classified materials;
  • Organizing and overseeing impromptu penetration tests of security system and equipment;
  • Developing and implementing work plans, strategies and budget;
  • Providing input for review of security policy, strategy, and procedures;
  • Appraising security personnel and monitoring performance by outsourced private security guards;
  • Consolidating and disseminating critical security information; and
  • Supervising and guiding employees for optimum performance.

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

Served in the grade of Principal Officer – Security for a minimum period of three (3) years;

OR

  • Five (5) years’ experience in a comparable position;
  • Advanced security management course from a recognized institution;
  • Bachelor’s degree in security studies, criminology, forensic science, security management, intelligence management, disaster management or a related qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Master’s degree from a recognized institution is an added advantage;
  • Paramilitary or National Youth Service (NYS) training is an added advantage;
  • Certificate in Senior Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
  • Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
