From Job Seeker to Recruiter: How Alice Is Helping Others Find Jobs
At CSS, we think that the hiring process is about matching talented people with the right opportunity, not just about filling jobs for the sake of it. We are pleased to introduce Alice Muthoni, a committed recruiter with a wide range of professional experience who is passionate about assisting job seekers in navigating the employment market.
Her experience is proof of tenacity, flexibility, and the value of a people-centred hiring process.
She has worked in a variety of industries during her career journey, including client service, sales, research, logistics, and now recruitment. Her view of leadership has changed with each position.
“I see leadership as the ability to deliver through people,” she shares. “One of the things I love about myself is that I stand on business.” She continues
As someone unemployed at one point, her approach to hiring has been greatly impacted by that experience. She aims to establish a fair and thoughtful hiring process because she is aware of the difficulties that job searchers encounter.
“I was unemployed for about three months before landing my second role.
Since then, I have transitioned through different positions, leading me to where I am today, which has made me look at recruitment differently.”
Her experience in job searching has brought out more compassion in her, and that is what drives her recruitment approach.
“Every application represents an individual with aspirations and hopes. This awareness encourages me to approach every application with top-tier fairness and consideration while still ensuring that the client’s quality standards are met.”
Alice has identified the most common error made by job seekers and provides helpful advice on how to rectify the mistake and get more job opportunities.
“Using one resume for all applications is the number one mistake applicants make.” She says. She urges jobseekers to customize and tailor each CV and application letter to highlight how their background aligns with the company’s needs.
I concluded our chat by asking for advice to the jobseekers who are almost giving up on looking for jobs.
“I would encourage job applicants to focus on roles where they meet the minimum requirements, as this increases their chances of being shortlisted. With every application, it’s essential to tailor the CV to highlight key strengths and relevant skills.” She urges
“If applying for a role in a different field, candidates should emphasize transferable skills that can be applied across industries. Additionally, salary is not always a direct reflection of one’s value—it largely depends on negotiation. Walking into an interview well-prepared to showcase relevant skills is crucial, as these skills serve as leverage during salary discussions.” She concludes.
Through her experience, Alice demonstrates the value of tenacity, adaptability, and a willingness to pick up new abilities. Her meticulous and considerate hiring methods guarantee a smooth hiring experience for both businesses and prospects.
