How My One-Year Job Search Came To An End

During an interview, the common question that employers ask is, “Why are you looking for a new job?” Among the reasons why most professionals look for other jobs are dissatisfaction in their current roles, they don’t like the company’s culture, they want more challenging opportunities or they lack advancement opportunities.

Stephanie Naliaka wanted searched for other jobs so that she could relocate to Nairobi from Kajiado and be flexible to study.

Through google, she knew Corporate Staffing and after registering her details on our database, she received various roles. Among them was the HR & Legal Officer job which we had advertised for our client Transport and Lifting Company.

I caught up with her to understand her career journey and here is her story.

Tell us about yourself

My Name is Stephanie Naliaka, an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a corporate lawyer, with over 5 years of experience in legal compliance, commercial transactions, employment, labor law relations, insurance law, working in tiles manufacturing companies, life insurance company, and law firms.

How long have you been looking for a job?

I had been looking for a job for close to 1 year because I wanted to relocate to Nairobi to further my studies.

How has your job search experience been like?

My Job experience was quite adventurous and just like any other, it has had its challenges, but I managed through it.

Are there any specific challenges you encountered in your job search process?

Yes. I sent out over 50 job applications but I only got two callbacks, one was from Corporate Staffing, and as a result, I landed my dream job.

Did you think you would get the job?

Honestly, I was not sure that I would get the job. I did not think I was qualified enough. I thought maybe I was a proxy, and CSS already had a suitable candidate in mind but I was proven wrong when I got the offer.

Employers look for honest, flexible, hardworking, and committed candidates with the requisite experience and qualifications.
