How My Tiresome Job Search Came To An End 6 Months Later, Thanks To CSS

How many times have you been applying for jobs without getting feedback? Leave alone getting regrets!

Today’s job market is like a thorny path and looking for a job can be a full-time job itself. The job market is competitive and you can feel demotivated if your job search is working against you.

Everyone’s job search is different and for Merab Owino, she applied for the position of Management Accountant,

Merab Owino

we advertised for our client Sabibu Africa. She wasn’t sure she would get the job but she won the stiff race.

I caught up with her to understand more about her job search journey and what she can advise other job seekers.

Here’s her story:

Tell us about yourself. What is your professional qualification?

My name is Merab Owino. I am an accounting professional, a CPA-K holder, and a registered member of ICPAK, with a Bachelor of Commerce, Finance option from the University of Nairobi. I am currently pursuing CIFA level 11.

How long have you been looking for a job?

I have been actively looking for a job for about 6 months.

What has your job search experience been like?

My job search journey has not been a walk in the park but has been tiresome and financially draining. Tiresome in the case when applying for as many jobs as possible without getting a job. Financially draining because I had to chip into my pocket to get the internet for me to search for new opportunities and send applications to many companies. Despite all those, I had to push through the lows and one thing is that I didn’t give up for I knew that there was a light at the end of the tunnel.

Are there any specific challenges you encountered in your job search process?

Job hunting is sucking and the worst part is not getting feedback from hiring managers especially when you have invested a lot of resources in the process.

Yes, we understand that the job market is competitive and many candidates compete for the few opportunities available therefore we should be resilient to grab the available opportunities.

Where did you hear about Corporate Staffing and the job opportunity?

I have known Corporate Staffing for quite some time through social media platforms and other recruitment platforms. Then there was the Management Accountant position which was advertised on the website because I usually check daily vacancies posted to see if I can get one which I qualify.

Would you recommend Corporate Staffing to anyone?

I would sincerely and highly recommend Corporate Staffing Services to any jobseeker. They are very professional, transparent, interactive, cordial and above all, they can provide you with career advice and CV writing service which helped me when I shared my CV for review.

How were the application and interview processes?

I applied for the management accountant position by sharing my CV. The interview process was very interactive and educative with highly experienced interviewers. There was continuous and timely update at all the stages of the recruitment process which impressed me.

Did you think you would get the job?

Well, nobody knows if the response would be yes or no. So I didn’t think that I would get the job. I was just trying my best of luck and I was very surprised at the same time impressed to be told I had been considered for the role.

Many professionals continue to look for jobs during this tough time. What is your advice to them?

We know that the job market is saturated with more supply than demand. I would advise job seekers to expand their networks. Connect with as many people as possible including the career coaches. Identify trusted recruitment firms like CSS, visit their website for daily job posts, and sign up to be getting alerts about new jobs. It will not cost any job seekers to visit one or two of such firms to interact with them to expand their network because it is with a good and large network that one can easily land a job.
