How Being Confident In Myself Got Me A Job Through CSS

By Lisa Osiako

The ongoing Corona pandemic has had adverse effects on professionals from all sectors alike. You will agree with me that job searching during this time has not been made any easier.

In August 2020, we advertised an Office Assistant Job for our client, Enlight Communications Ltd. The job was advertised on our website and other partner websites too.

Phylis was one of the applicants, and ultimately the preferred candidate of choice.

I caught up with her to hear her story. For her, she believes that what ultimately got her the job was the fact that she was confident in herself and what she was bringing to the employer.

Here is what she had to say, and lessons you can pick for yourself as well:

What has your career journey been like?

I am an individual who is passionate about customer service. Although my educational background is in human resource, I believe that it played a part in helping me realize my passion.

I have been working for slightly over seven years majorly in this field.

Then I lost my job in March and had to start looking for another one.

Did you know about Corporate Staffing prior to losing your job?

Yes, I did. I first saw your company on a Google search I made three years ago. At the time, I was looking for a job and Corporate Staffing popped up.

For this particular role, I was referred to by a friend and after going through the qualifications, I decided to apply.

Phylis Muteshi

You lost your job in March. How was that for you?

It was tough.

I was working at this company and was not actively looking for any opportunity. However, when the Covid-19 pandemic hit, the company was unable to operate. Half of us were let go and that immediately pushed me into job hunting.

How was the application and interview process for this role?

I would say it was easier than I expected.

My first interview was a phone interview that went well. After that, I was invited to meet the client through a second interview. I eventually got the job!

Many professionals like you, have had to deal with job losses during this time. Did you think you would be able to get another job?

I was confident in myself.

I pictured myself in this role, visualized it and actualized it.

Based on your experience, what can you tell job seekers who are skeptical about finding jobs during this time?

Never give up. Keep on trying. Look for the job. No one is going to come to your house and give you a job. You have to look for it.

In the end,

Believing in yourself is key, for you to unlock certain job opportunities. If you do not believe in yourself, how will a potential employer believe in you?

Have a little more confidence as you send in your applications. All the best!

  2. Inspiring story , i can relate it to myself. I also lost my job too 2 months ago but still searching. I would not mind help from career staffing professionals on how to go about securing a job under the circumstances that i went through to loose my job in mind.

  4. Thank you
    This is very encouraging.
Early September, my former colleague and supervisor asked for my CV, which she sent to you for a Sales position in Kakamega
I received a call from Regina. I later called to follow up, only to be told that the position was already filled. I felt crushed because I didn’t get a regret.
Despite that, I’m still optimistic and confident that something shall come through for me, now that I have officially uploaded my resume on your portal.
