How CSS Helped Me Get A Job After 3 Months Of Job Searching

Have you been applying for numerous job opportunities without any success? With the ongoing pandemic, you may feel like all hope is lost. Although it may feel like your applications are all in vain, they are not.

On 24th March 2020, we advertised an IT Manager job for our client, the Magnate Ventures on our website, and other partner websites. We received over 500 applications. Of those, we shortlisted 30 for the first interview, where we recommended five candidates for the client interview, and ultimately one of them got the job!

I spoke to Julius Thuo, who got the job. He had been applying for jobs for over 3 months, without any success. Many of his applications went unanswered, and he received regrets on others.

Here is his story:

Who is Julius?

Julius Thuo

Am a well-rounded IT professional, with over 7 years’ experience in ICT and other related fields. I have always been one of the people who seek to drive change in an organization. This has sharpened my skills in leadership, communication, and planning. For me, I am driven by the question, “Is this the best way possible to do it?” I am also very sociable and as such, quickly establish rapport and maintain relationships. Something else that drives me is that I am open to new challenges and opportunities.

Where did you hear about Corporate Staffing and the job opportunity?

I knew it through some of my friends who had interacted with Corporate Staffing. Personally, I had never applied for a job through them, but when I saw the job opportunity online, on their website, I decided to give it a try.

How long had you been job searching before coming across this job?

I had been job searching for 3 months. I was still working while looking for a new job but was looking for something specific – something that would meet my needs. In the three months, I tried various job sites and many times would not get any feedback. A few times I received regrets, but I decided to keep on applying whenever I saw an opportunity I thought fit my needs.

How was the application and interview process?

The process for me was very smooth. The feedback, especially, was very fast. I appreciate the fact that I was also kept in the loop whenever there was a delay in the process, for any reason.

With many professionals facing pay cuts, unpaid leave, and even others being laid off, did you think you would get a job during this time?

No, I did not think I would get the job. I even shared my experience with my friends and many of them were wondering how I was able to change jobs during this pandemic. Most of them, to date, are surprised.

Many job seekers are skeptical about finding jobs during this difficult time. Based on your experience, what can you tell them?

Although the market has gotten more competitive, there are still organizations, though few, still looking to hire. So keep on applying. If you have applied for 100 positions without any feedback, your answer may be in your 101st application. It may just be the one.

In Conclusion,

Do not lose hope. Although it may take longer than expected to get a job, ensure your CV is updated, and keep on applying.
