How I Landed A Finance Manager Job Through CSS

When the year began, you may have hoped and planned to get a new job, change careers, or even quit your job and start a business.

Were you able to follow through with your plans?

Raphael Mutisya applied for a job in January and reported to work in March, just before the pandemic took a toll on the job market. I recently had a chat with him and this is what he had to say.

On 24th January 2020, we advertised a Finance Manager job for our client, Uplands Premium Dairies on our website, and other partner websites. We received over 500 applications. Of those, we shortlisted 20 for the first interview, where we recommended five candidates for the client interview, and ultimately one of them got the job!

What has your career journey been like?

I am a Finance and Administration professional with over 10 years of experience in the ‘Finance world,’ if I may put it that way. I started out as an accountant in the fruit processing industry. Thereafter, I was appointed the chief accountant of a locally owned brewery. I worked there for five years before moving to my previous role, at a logistics company, this time, as the finance and operations general manager. I was here for about 8 years. At the beginning of this year, I decided that it was time for a change.

Where did you hear about Corporate Staffing and the job opportunity?

I have known about Corporate Staffing for a long time. Through their website, I see the job opportunities that are available. Every time I saw a job opportunity I thought I qualified for, I would apply and wait for feedback.

That is how I came across the Finance Manager job advertised on the Corporate Staffing website and decided to apply. At the time, I was still employed, but decided to give this job opportunity a try.

How was the application and interview process?

The application process for me was very smooth. Because I had seen the job advertisement on the Corporate Staffing website, all the details on how to send my application were there. I sent my application and a few days later, got the call inviting me for the first interview. The interview process was also smooth as details were provided beforehand. There was good communication. After the first interview, I was later invited for the second interview with the client. I was later informed that I had been their preferred candidate. I have now settled into my new role, and I couldn’t be happier!

Did you think you would get the job?

The thing about applying for jobs is that you can never be really sure that you will get it. However, I am a very optimistic person. And that is what I held on to, right from the time I submitted my application.

Many job seekers are losing hope in applying for jobs during this time. What can you tell them?

Although the economy has taken a hard hit with the ongoing pandemic, it is still running. As such, you may find jobs that are relevant to your area of expertise, or you may need to enhance your skillset to keep up with the current job market. If it is short courses you will take, you do that. Because when you get that job, you will realize that all you did was not in vain.

All in all, always be optimistic because something will surely come through.
