Corporate Staffing Holds A Successful Leadership Training For PACIS Insurance
On Friday 20th July 2018, Corporate Staffing Services held a ‘Management and Leadership Skills Development Training’ for Pacis Insurance staff members at Elysian Resort along Kiambu Road.
The full day training was facilitated by Lead Trainer and CEO of Corporate Staffing Services Perminus Wainaina and was aimed at equipping those who had attended with the leadership skills they needed to lead their organizations and those who report to them.
The interactive, practical and highly engaging session was attended by employees from different departments such as human resources, claims, accounting, sales and marketing among others.

The role of anyone put in a leadership position is to allow for optimal effectiveness and to challenge the status quo for an organization to move forward while overseeing the day to day running of an organization.
Perminus insisted that 60% of employees fail in the first two years when they are put in leadership positions for reasons such as failure to define goals or set expectations, not leading by example, being too hands off, being too friendly, refusing to make tough decisions among others.
Leaders also fail when they are too emotional when making decisions, unable or unwilling to delegate and not having the right people for the job.
Among the key areas covered during this training included:
1. Emotional intelligence
Emotional intelligence or “EQ” simply means being aware of your emotions and those of others.
And once you know this, it’s all about your ability to control your emotions and motivate yourself to be the best you can possibly be.
You will be required to have high EQ levels if you are to succeed in any leadership position.
2. Influencing skills
This is the ability to have an effect on the character, development or behavior of someone or something or the effect itself.
According to Perminus, if you are looking to influence others, you have to keep in mind the fact that;
- People do things for their own reasons not yours.
- If you don’t explicitly ask for what you want, you probably won’t get it
- Influencing happens one person a time; there is nothing like influencing a group of people.
- Learn to build relationships while getting results; in other words, don’t burn bridges just to get what you want.
- And lastly, learn to take responsibility for your impact on others; rejection will happen, don’t take it personal but learn to do better next time
3. Understanding the bigger picture
Vision is the ability to see the big picture or the object of the task.
This requires a leader to know from the very beginning what they end result should be and not necessary flow with the motions.
4. Goal setting
This is the ability to lead a team along the set key performance indicators (KPIs) by simplifying goals by making it easier for people to do their jobs through providing the resources, doing follow ups and providing ongoing support through coaching.
5. Effective delegation
Perminus insisted that good leaders must be willing to delegate task and in those case, a task can either be urgent, important or both.
As a leader, you cannot do everything on your own.
Leadership is about empowering others in such a way that when you are not around, things will continue running because some else knows how to do the job.
6. Leadership and personal branding
Personal brand is what differentiates you from others. You will not manage your brand in a day but it’s a continuous process.
What you need to remember is that we all have a personal brand either by default or design. You need to understand what yours is and how you can improve it to influence others.
Now it’s your turn
A leader is a change agent. They influence the organizational change through their actions and influencing the actions of others. They are the backbone of successful change in the organization and this is something anyone striving for a leadership position needs to understand.
