Tips For Working With A Recruitment Agency.

So you want to work with a recruitment agency to find you a new job? How should you handle the relationship with a recruitment firm?

Here are five tips to remember whenever you are interacting with a recruiter.

Building strong relationships with recruiters . Follow up every couple of weeks via a call or email. If a recruitment consultant has information about an interview for you or the next steps they WILL call you. Contacting them more than this will detract the consultant from doing their job…getting new vacancies and getting you the interview.

Recruiters often hold key information about positions, companies hiring, and specific hurdles hiring managers put in front of candidates. They are always willing to share that information with the candidates they believe to be their personal top choice.

Preparation is the key. Does your CV really present you well? Do you have a plan on how you are going to be successful? Know the market, the competitors and industry news.

Be open and honest with the consultant and answer their questions as best you can. Understand the recruitment consultant is trying to qualify if you are right for the job. They are not trying to trip you up. They need to know specifics and will ask hard questions.

Be patient. Consultants are extremely busy people and having to juggle candidates, clients, jobs etc. Think how time consuming it is looking for one job, so imagine trying to fill 30 jobs , all in the next 48 hours!

Good luck with your job search
