He mentioned that, an employment survey that was done by Corporate Staffing Services in 2015 showed that despite the large number of applicants, it’s still difficult to find top talent with positive attitude towards work.

He added that,  “45.3% of the respondents mentioned that the candidates who apply for vacancies are of poor quality, as a majority of them do not fit in the position.”

In his speech , Mr. Wainaina observed that there are various negative results of poor quality hire in an organization including: lost worker productivity, financial expenses due to recruiting and training another worker, negative impact on employee morale and dwindling customer service.

To improve the quality of hire, Mr. Wainaina advised recruiters on being clear about the job by simply writing down the defining skills, knowledge, behaviors and attitude needed for success in that particular job.

He also urged recruiters to view the recruitment process as a sales process where competition for great talent tells what is in it and why.

He further advised recruiters on being open and providing enough details about the particular role to the candidates as it gives them a clear idea of what the job would be like. Lastly and most importantly, he reminded recruiters that candidates decide about how they fit within the organization within their first three months’ stay in the company which means that the on boarding process should be done very keenly.

He concluded by noting that good quality hire is a plus for any organization as it helps firm remain top in a competitive market.
